Can You Make Money Blogging?
SUMMARY
If you want to really learn how to make money blogging, I’m here to tell you to throw out 90% of what you have learned from others.
Everyone has advice and most if not all of the advice is generic and basic at most. The “experts” recommend finding your passion, write awesome content, SEO is important, and staying consistent is key. It’s slightly more complex than that if you are approaching blogging as a business.
Eventually, in a few years, if you are lucky, you will have decent website traffic so you can monetize your blog and join affiliate programs such as Amazon Associates, and Shareasale; then you can move onto ad programs like Mediavine or Exoic and create a few online courses and sell some digital products.
I’m here to tell you that this is straight bull! It honestly doesn’t need to take several years. Most of the blogging advice currently being peddled around is antiquated at best. You can dive down the antiquated rabbit hole and you will make money eventually, or you can run your blog like a business and start making money from day one.
If your goal is to make money, then you absolutely must approach blogging from a business standpoint. You are the CEO of your blogging company. You have to treat your blog as a business. If you are blogging as a hobby, then this article is not necessarily directed at you.
I officially launched my blog in February 2019. I was able to generate over $2000 in my first 30 days of blogging. I really thought I was doing something major and that I knew what I was doing. Not exactly, and now that I know better and have a better understanding of how blogging actually works and what has to happen in the background to have a successful blog I’m here to share that info with you.

There Is No Perfect Process
As bloggers, we all have our own paths and our own story. Sometimes, you can be in the right place at the right time and have a blog article go viral, and as they say, the rest is history. You can also be a consistent blogger that shows up daily and puts in the work. Just remember that others will bite off your content, and some may even downright steal your articles, pins, and images, but they don’t have your style, flair, or flavor. Your blog will be uniquely yours.
With all of the above in mind, please be mindful that there is a method to the madness and it has been best tested, tried, and proven. Do not try to reinvent the wheel (Google likes what Google likes) Just remember that Google is your friend, take advantage of what Google offers.
Take advantage and learn from other bloggers. View their pages and see what is working for them. Take advantage of tools such as MOZ, Ubersuggest, and Keywords Everywhere just to name a few. I’m here to tell you that you need to have a solid foundation in the tech side of blogging skills in order to succeed in the blogging world.
How Much Time Do You Need To Run A Blog
The bigger question is how much time can you commit to blogging starting out? Most people launch their blogs part-time. I started out part-time then I left my job to focus on blogging full-time. I’ve said before that blogging is not for the faint of heart. It takes time to cultivate your writing skills and you need some writing skills as writing blog articles is about 80% of blogging. You also need to be able to set aside time to put together marketing (yes, posting to social media and creating pins is a form of marketing). You also simply need to have time to learn the ins and outs of blogging as there is a technical aspect of blogging. You don’t need to have attended the Art Inst for Web Development like me, but having a solid understanding of how blogs work and the technical aspects of blogging will take you further.
One key to having a successful blog is to be consistent. If you are going to commit to an hour per day then be consistent and get your hour in on a daily basis. There are bloggers that work 2 hours a day on their blogs and they are killing it. There are some bloggers that may work 40 hours per week on their blogs, but if you aren’t following standard practices then your blog may not be seeing the results you desire.
Bloggers that are in the top-earning brackets have been blogging for over 4 years. I’m not saying that you can’t earn a full-time income within a year, but you will need to put in work. I was able to earn over $2000 in my first 30 days of blogging. It takes time to build an audience and following. Keep in mind that you are also building a brand that your readers trust.
Time Intensive
I’m here to tell you that blogging takes a lot of work and time. If you make sure that you set your blog up correctly from jump street, you will see success quicker. Learn from the mistakes of others so that you don’t waste time correcting mistakes that could have been avoided.
You will also want to engage with other bloggers in a few of the Facebook groups. You will also need to work on creating your own products that you can sell on your blog site.

- Content is King
- SEO (Search Engine Optimization) If Google doesn’t know you exist, then what is the point?
- Create and Find your audience. Make sure you are blogging about things that people care about and what answers to. Be original, and likable. Make sure that what you write about is what people are searching for on Google and other search engines.
- Tie your articles into your affiliates or products. That is not to say that you need to try and push items for sale down your reader’s throats.
- Show me the money. The goal is to make money from your blog.
Yes, you can make money blogging. There are tons of bloggers that make in excess of six figures from their blogs. They started out just like you and me. You can make a living off of blogging if you are willing to put in the work. Blogging is a marathon, not a sprint.
