Get Your Blog Noticed
Pre-Planning Stage
Before you jump head-first into the frying pan of blogging, I highly suggest that you take a week or two and just do an in-depth search on what blogging is, terms, tools, processes, SEO, and everything in between. I see so many bloggers in groups that will say, I launched my blog today, what do I need to do next? That is an absurd way to start a business. I can’t imagine that you would open a Coffee Shop and know zero about Coffee. Imagine being open for business and you don’t know the coffee flavors or how to brew coffee. You will save yourself a ton of heartache, wasted time, and money if you simply spend some time learning about blogging first.
1. Pick Solid Hosting
Your hosting is one of those items that are behind the scenes but plays such a critical role in your blog’s functioning. You absolutely need to be self-hosted. If your goal is to earn money from your blog, then you need to be self-hosted. I discuss why in this article on Self-Hosting. I currently use Bluehost and so far, it has been ok!. I had a few issues in the beginning. I will honestly say they have gotten better over time.
2. Pick A Premium Theme
Make sure that you select a theme that you can grow with. Most free themes do not come with support or updates. Research your competition and see what themes they are using. You want a theme that you can tweak and personalize the look so that you don’t end up with a cookie-cutter feel. Also, understand that choosing the wrong theme could result in your site loading slowly or not transitioning when someone is viewing the site on their mobile device.
There are several different well-known themes to choose from. I use 17th Ave Designs which is built on the Genesis Parent Theme. Other well-known theme builders include Astra and Elementor.
3. Select Good Plugins
If your blog is your house, then think of your plugins as your accessories. Plugins are essential. There are going to be plugins that you will need to install in order for your theme to work ( these are normally pre-installed) or you get directions on installing them when you are installing your theme to WordPress.
Here is my list of must-have plugins:
Here is my list of must-have plugins:
- RankMath – This is a cool Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Plugin that enables you to optimize your content. I recently switched over from YOAST SEO To Rank Math
- Google Site Kit
- Yoast Duplicate Post- A simple plugin that allows you to duplicate a post. You can create a template of a post style and use it over and over again vs. having to create a post from scratch.

4. Implement A Mailing List
One of the most overlooked tools that you need to have from day one is a mailing list. Your mailing list is money in the bank and you own your mailing list. Having a mailing list allows you to have direct contact with your readers.
I use ConvertKit and it is amazing.
Automation
5. Automate Your Processes
One of the best things that you can do in your business is to automate any processes that you can automate. There are several tools that will allow you to automate your social media. Take heed and automate. Use tools such as Simplified to Pre-schedule your content on social media. If you are just getting started, you can use FB Business Suite To pre-schedule content to both FB and IG. My current favorite tool is Simplified. Not only can I use it to pre-schedule content, it comes with a suite of tools that is amazing.
If you want to get a jumpstart on scheduling content for the entire year, then use the Social Media Content Calendar, it is done for you content. It includes stock photos, canva templates and so much more.
The goal is to batch-create content, plug it into the automation tools and let the tools post your content for you. Hence you don’t need to wake up on a daily basis, thinking about what you are going to post today. Some of your blogging success will depend on your ability to automate processes.
6. Schedule Your Pins With Tailwinds
Understand that Pinterest is to Bloggers What gas is to a car. You can drive the car with 89 gas but your car will drive better with premium. Pinterest Pins are premium gas for your blog. Pinning manually to Pinterest is time-consuming and tedious. Using Tailwinds enables you to take one Pin and schedule it to multiple boards over a period of time.
Pinterest is one of the easiest ways to get eyes on your blog and get your blog noticed.
Social Media
7. Choose the Best Social Media Platform
Social media can play a significant role in your blogging success. In a perfect world, you would want to be on all platforms everywhere. However, we know that is not practical. You need to master one or two social media platforms. I am not saying that you shouldn’t post to all social media. I am simply suggesting that you become an expert at one or two of them. Take your pick and become an expert so that you completely understand the ins and outs of your chosen social media platform(s). Figure out which platform(s) will work best for what you hope to achieve with your blogging business.
Understand that Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Pinterest, and Tiktok all work differently. If you are going to use Pinterest to drive traffic then be the best at Pinterest. Know all the nuances, ins, and outs of Pinterest. Figure out where your audience is hanging out and navigate there.
8. Engage With Others On Social Media
Blogging is a team sport and as such you need a team. It’s important for you to engage with other folks on social media. Make sure that you have added social sharing to your blog posts. I currently use Grow with MediaVine. You want your readers to assist you in getting your blog out.
